It was just a few short years ago I was petrified to even board a plane let alone taking off and being stuck in the sky. I had always flown, but the terror did me in every time. Even on my flight down to Cincinnati from Pittsburgh for my job interview, I was still somewhat "white knuckled". (For those of you who might not remember me, I'm a flight attendant.) With turbulence, I went from, "Dear, God. PLEASE get me out of this plane!" to "Oh yeah! That was one heck of a ride!!!" I've had my crew call back to me (I'm the only FA on a CRJ 50-seater) and ask me to take a seat for the next five to ten minutes because we were coming up on some moderate to severe turbulence. My first few months, I did as I was told. The last few months, I usually use my discretion. LOL

I just celebrated my one year anniversary with the company on the 16th of July with the only thing I thought appropriate. I started flying lessons and did my "discovery flight". That's right. I taxied out - steering with my feet still leaves much to be desired - took off, and even did some wrong kind of turns to feel what the right ones should really feel like. As I taxied back to the hangar, I got a little misty eyed considering I went from such an extreme fear of flying (no one will ever know what we go through with that!) to getting antsy if I have had a few days off and haven't been able to be in the air.

If you're sitting back thinking you could never get over your fear, I'm here to tell you, YOU CAN! I don't know how I did it, but I did. And if I'm fortunate enough, I may even have one of you on a flight some day. You'll know me...I'm the goofy one with the bad jokes ;-)
